Unnumbered (no serial number) nickel Elmar 5cm f3.5. Meter scale, full-circle type. Helicoid number 3, commonly known as the Short Elmar. Among various barrel lengths of the Short Elmar, this example is particularly short—every time you extend it, you may find yourself wondering if it’s fully drawn out.
Although not the so-called old Elmar, this lens was originally mounted on a Leica Model A manufactured around 1930. It was later factory-converted by Leitz to Leica screw mount with rangefinder coupling.
Perfectly suited for black/nickel Barnack Leicas, and since it has no infinity lock pin, it also works well on mirrorless cameras via an adapter. Nearly 95 years old, yet still a fully capable Leica lens today.
This item was previously sold by our store and has returned to us. There are minor scuffs and some wear to the nickel plating consistent with its age, but no noticeable dents, impact marks, or distortion of the nameplate.
Fully overhauled in 2024. Thanks to meticulous servicing, both the aperture and focusing helicoid operate smoothly. Focus accuracy and rangefinder coupling are excellent.
The front element shows a considerable number of cleaning marks, which may cause slight effects under backlight conditions. The inner barrel’s anti-reflection lacquer has been carefully reapplied, enhancing contrast and overall rendering.
