First-generation Noctilux 50mm f1.2. Leica product code 11820. This is an early version from the 2.25 million serial range, manufactured in 1968.
The Noctilux was introduced in 1966 as Leica's first lens to incorporate aspherical elements. It features a 4-group, 6-element construction.
Named after the night light, the Noctilux was designed to capture images under low light with high contrast reproduction, delivering a unique rendering with pronounced vignetting and bokeh that define its character.
This particular piece is in excellent condition with full servicing completed, and comes with its original accessories.
This item was previously sold by our store and has now returned, having been carefully used and well maintained by its former owner.
There is minor paint loss on the helicoid ring, but otherwise the lens shows very little signs of use and has a clean appearance overall. Even the outer rim of the filter thread, which is prone to wear, remains in excellent condition. The dedicated 12508 lens hood is also in beautiful shape, matching the lens body.
Fully overhauled in 2025. While operation becomes slightly heavier near the minimum aperture range of f11 to f16, all other controls operate smoothly, allowing for an enjoyable and immersive shooting experience. The rangefinder coupling is spot on.
There is slight aging-related deterioration of the coating on the inner lens elements, but it has no noticeable effect on actual images. No significant cleaning marks or scratches are visible, and for a Noctilux f1.2, the glass is in remarkably fine condition.
Image quality was also excellent. Although taken during the previous sale, sample photos are available on our test gallery. We hope you enjoy viewing them.
Included accessories are also well matched to the lens condition: the dedicated 12503 hood for the Noctilux, a Series 8 UVa filter, and a 14102P front cap.
