Summicron-M 35mm f2, rare 7-element chrome barrel version. Leica product code 11311. Serial number in the 3.68 million range, manufactured in 1995.
The first-generation Summicron 35mm had 8 elements, the second generation had 6, and this third generation features a 7-element design. This 5-group 7-element Summicron, commonly known as the 7-element type, is a refined evolution of Leica's wide-angle M lenses. It offers rich bokeh, smooth tonal gradation, excellent rendering and resolution, and a minimal, functional design that has gained popularity in recent years. It is often referred to overseas as the Bokeh King for its beautiful out-of-focus quality.
When it was first released in 1980, only the black version was available. The chrome version was introduced in 1992, featuring digital-style markings that give it a more modern look.
Although the glass is the same as the black version, the chrome version has a different construction and feel due to its solid brass body. The lens itself weighs 245g.
Recommended lens hoods include the 12524 from the same period, as well as the classic IROOA, 12585, and 12504.
The exterior is in pristine condition with no signs of use. There are no visible marks from attaching or removing the hood, nor any scuffing on the mount surface visible to the naked eye.
Fully overhauled in July 2025, including precise focus adjustment. The aperture clicks smoothly and the helicoid offers a nicely dampened, fluid feel. Rangefinder coupling and focusing are both accurate.
There is a very slight coating deterioration on the front element, but it has no effect on image quality. The glass is otherwise clear and clean, with no haze or cleaning marks.
Comes with 12524 hood, caps, case, and original box.
