The Leica CL is a compact Leica born from the collaboration between Leitz and Minolta. Serial number is in the 1.42 million range, manufactured in 1973/74. It comes standard with the Summicron-C 40mm F2 lens.
Equipped with a 40mm viewfinder frame and vertical-run shutter, it features mechanisms different from M-type models. The viewfinder also includes frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses, offering essential functions in a compact body. It is a renowned camera whose true value becomes apparent with use.
The Summicron-C 40mm provides a superb angle of view, with a minimum focusing distance of 80cm, making it perfect for snapshots and travel photography.
There is some loss of black chrome plating on the corner of the baseplate, and light scuff marks are visible on various parts, but overall it is a relatively clean piece. There are no dents or dings.
The lens received a full overhaul in July 2025. Some clouding-like coating deterioration remains on the rear element's edges, which could not be removed during cleaning, but it should not affect image quality. Actual test shots produced excellent results.
This body was in regular use by one of our customers until recently, and all functions operate smoothly. The built-in light meter is working accurately, making it a great choice for those starting out with film Leicas.
Originally, filters are clamped into a rubber hood using Series 5.5 filters, but this unit includes a third-party adapter ring that converts Series 5.5 to E39, along with a UV filter. A well-balanced, ready-to-use body.
