The Leitz product code is FOOMI, later changed to 14105. This is a compact ball head made by Leitz, with both male and female fine-thread types. Following the first small head FIAKU, the code was changed to FOOMI in 1938, and several variations appeared. The wing screw on this example has a glossy chrome finish. The Leitz logo is the hexagon type.
Leitz ball heads are renowned for their incredibly intricate construction, which can be felt immediately when handled. With very little effort, it locks firmly in place and does not budge. True to Leitz standards, the machining is exceptionally precise.
Even today, there are hardly any tripod heads of this size that can lock so securely. It remains one of the best compact tripod heads for practical use in the 21st century.

Light scuffs can be seen on the base from tripod mounting, but overall there are no signs of use and it is in near-unused condition. The operation feels precise and firm, making it well suited for practical use.
It likely dates from the late 1950s to early 1960s, and comes with its original box from that fine era.
