Summicron 35mm f2 with chrome barrel, commonly known as the 8-element version. Made in Germany. Leitz product code SAWOM, later 11308. Serial number in the 2.19 million range, manufactured in 1966. Minimum focusing distance is 0.7 m. Filter size is E39.
In addition to its exceptional optical performance, it also features the refined industrial design characteristic of German engineering.
At full aperture, it produces a gentle and smooth rendering; stopping down slightly brings out a strong sense of depth and dimensionality, and further stopping down delivers crisp sharpness while maintaining softness in tone. A truly Leica-like style and image quality.
Both the exterior and optics are in beautiful condition. In recent years, the popularity of the 8-element version has continued to rise, and well-preserved examples like this one have become increasingly hard to find.
Compatible original hoods include ITDOO or IROOA. Later hoods such as 12585 and 12504 can also be fitted.
The barrel shows almost no signs of use and is in excellent condition, retaining plenty of the atmosphere of a brand-new lens. It is rare to find an 8-element Summicron in such fine shape.
Fully overhauled in October 2025, with the aperture and focusing helicoid finished to a beautifully smooth feel. The infinity stop engages with a gentle, silky motion.
There is a very slight deterioration of the coating on an internal element, but it is so minor that it can only be seen under strong LED light and has no effect on image quality. No visible cleaning marks. Test shots produced excellent results.
Comes with UVa filter and original front and rear caps.
