Third generation Noctilux 50mm, late version with separate E60 hood. The subsequent model adopted a built-in hood. Leica product code 11821. Serial number in the 3,220,000 range, manufactured in 1982 by Leitz Canada. The matching hood is the 12539, which is not included with this item. Like the IROOA, it is a type that clamps on both sides.
A lens to fully enjoy the distinctive Noctilux rendering at around its maximum aperture of f1.0. Needless to say, it also performs beautifully when stopped down. Its rich bokeh and the flare that appears in highlights on the subject create a wonderfully beautiful world.
A magical lens that can turn everyday scenery into something extraordinary.
Light scuffs and small marks can be seen on the filter ring at the front of the barrel, the helicoid ring, and around the LENS MADE IN CANADA engraving at the base, but overall it is a rather clean piece. Filters can be mounted without issue. An ideal E60 Noctilux for active use.
Fully overhauled in August 2025. The aperture and helicoid now operate with a smoothness that feels completely different from before. Rangefinder coupling is spot on from wide open at the minimum distance to around 10 m, but beyond that it tends to front focus slightly. Stopping down by one stop will bring it within the depth of field, so it is recommended to stop down slightly for long-distance shots.
When illuminated with a strong LED light, slight coating deterioration can be seen on the middle elements, but it will have virtually no effect on actual photography.
Test shots also yielded good results, allowing you to fully enjoy the characteristic rendering of the E60 Noctilux.
Comes with 13381 E60 UVa filter, genuine front and rear caps.
