One of the earliest Super-Angulon 21mm lenses, believed to be one of the 222 units produced in 1958 during Leitz's golden age. Later designated with the code 11002K, its serial number falls within the 1.6 million range.
Although it bears the Leitz name, the lens was manufactured by Schneider and is an ultra-wide-angle design. Some versions even carry Schneider serial numbers, making them particularly rare collector's items. The optical formula consists of 4 groups and 9 elements.
While it is a Leica M mount lens, removing the coupling cam and set screw allows it to be used on Leica screw mount bodies as well. The minimum focusing distance is 0.4 meters (rangefinder coupling engages from 1 meter).
When paired with the original IWKOO hood, it also makes for a stylish combination. Please note that this lens causes color shifts around the edges when used with digital Leica M bodies, except for the M11.
This item was previously sold by our store and has now returned after being carefully used by its owner. This marks the third time we are offering it for sale.
The barrel shows only faint surface marks, and for an SA 21mm f4—which is often found heavily used—this example boasts a very clean appearance.
Ahead of this resale, it underwent a full overhaul in June 2025. All functions operate smoothly, including precise rangefinder coupling.
There are a few extremely light cleaning marks on both the front and rear elements, but they have virtually no impact on actual image quality. The coating on all surfaces remains in excellent condition, and the glass is clear and crisp. For a Super-Angulon, which is often plagued by haze, this is an exceptionally clean example.
Image quality is excellent—ready to be used. Comes with original front and rear caps. The rear cap is a period-correct version without the Leitz logo.
