Alpa 9d Green. A 35mm eye-level SLR camera made by the Swiss company Pignons S.A. It was the third TTL (through-the-lens) metering camera in the world, following the Topcon RE Super and Pentax SP. Among Alpa's high-end, small-batch production lineup, the 9d was the best-selling model. A total of 4,391 units were made in silver finish, and 665 in black.

This particular green version was a special order from a U.S. distributor, and only 63 units were produced between 1964 and 1968. This unit was made in 1966. Among the green 9d models, some feature only green leather, while others have the prism housing finished in green as well.

What makes Alpa cameras so appealing is not only their solid feel, refined construction, and meticulous finishing that come with limited production, but also their remarkably diverse lens lineup. Since Alpa did not produce its own lenses, it offered a wide range of optics from top manufacturers around the world. These included Switzerland’s Kern and Spectros, the Netherlands’ Old Delft, Germany’s Schneider and Kilfitt, France’s Angénieux and Kinoptik, and from Japan, Chinon and Asahi Optical.

The crinkle finish on the top cover, areas around the strap lugs, and various edges show signs of paint loss, giving the camera a well-used and appealingly rugged appearance. The body and bottom cover have matching serial numbers.

The light meter is unstable and not reliable for practical use. However, other mechanisms, including the shutter and mirror, are functioning well.
