Hektor 73 mm f1.9 in the rare all-black finish. The Leitz code is HEKON. The serial number is in the 140,000 range. While serial number tables indicate this piece was made in 1932, some data suggests that all-black Hektor 7.3 cm lenses were produced in 1933 and 1934.
The Hektor 73 mm began as a non-rangefinder-coupled lens in its earliest form, then moved to a rotating helicoid with rangefinder coupling. This all-black version adopted a straight helicoid to support Agfa color photography accessories, and later production returned to a rotating helicoid.
This example features the straight helicoid. Focusing scale is in meters and it is rangefinder coupled. Genuine compatible filters are 43 mm slip-on types or 39 mm screw-in types.
There is an engraved marking on the barrel base that reads WIII6 Nr77, though its meaning is unknown. The helicoid shows some paint loss along the edges from use. There are noticeable signs of handling such as scuffing on the lower side when mounted on a camera body, but there are no dents or impacts. The condition of the hood and caps matches that of the lens itself. It has a very bold and attractive appearance.
In November 2025 it received a full overhaul, including adjustment of the focusing accuracy. Thanks to the careful service, both the aperture ring and helicoid operate very smoothly.
The glass is quite clean for a Hektor. The front element shows very slight haze and a few faint cleaning marks, but no fungus traces or internal haze. Test shots were excellent. A genuine hood and front cap are included. The rear cap is made of Bakelite.
