※About rarity

Wide-angle lens made by Angénieux of France, 28mm f3.5 Type R11. This is the Alpa-mount version with automatic diaphragm. The Type R11 was introduced in 1953, and this particular example was manufactured in 1960. It features a retrofocus design with 6 elements in 6 groups and a satin chrome finish with a slight sheen. Although production numbers were limited, there also exists a black barrel version of this automatic diaphragm type.
The lens has a distinctive and intricate mechanism allowing aperture adjustment by rotating a dial—an ingenious design that often challenges repair technicians. It is equipped with a lever to switch between automatic and manual aperture modes.
The Angénieux Type R11 was supplied for various camera mounts, including Exakta, M42, Alpa, Praktina, Rectaflex, and Leica.

There is some plating lift and peeling on the side of the lens barrel base due to age. It is a bit regrettable considering the overall low signs of use, but it should be an excellent choice for practical use without hesitation.
Fully overhauled in October 2025. This type is known to be quite demanding to service, yet thanks to thorough maintenance, the aperture dial, helicoid, and auto/manual aperture switching lever all operate with remarkable smoothness. The glass shows no noticeable cleaning marks or haze.
