Pre-war Sonnar 5cm f2. Made by Carl Zeiss Jena, Germany. This lens was supplied for the Contax II. Serial number in the 2.2 million range, manufactured in 1937. Uncoated. Chrome finish. Collapsible type. A standard lens that can be mounted on various Contax cameras including post-war models.
With an adapter, it can also be enjoyed on Leica M cameras as well as a wide range of mirrorless digital cameras.
Signs of use are minimal, and the barrel is in excellent condition. The chrome finish is well preserved, shining beautifully. Fully overhauled in August 2025, with the aperture operation tuned to a smooth and refined feel. The glass is equally attractive, with only a few faint cleaning marks on the front element, visible under LED light and a loupe. For a Sonnar f2, the glass is remarkably clean and clear. Rangefinder coupling and focus have been confirmed with a Leica M10-P using a Contax to Leica adapter. Overall, a very fine example. Although produced by Zeiss after the war, it comes with an original Zeiss UV filter and front and rear caps.
