This aluminum-barrel model is lightweight yet filled with substantial glass, making it a fast, large-aperture medium-telephoto lens. Highly regarded for portrait work, it delivers exquisite tonal gradation and a refined rendering that gently separates the subject from the background.
There are light signs of use such as minor scuff marks, but no noticeable scratches or dings. For an aluminum-barrel Sonnar 8.5 cm, the exterior is in quite beautiful condition.
Fully overhauled in September 2025. The aperture ring turns smoothly, and the helicoid—often heavy on Sonnar lenses—operates with pleasant smoothness.
On the glass, four very faint cleaning marks can be seen on the rear element and a somewhat higher number of fine cleaning marks on the front element. The edge of the front element appears slightly whitish due to coating deterioration, but there is no significant haze or fungus, and the glass remains clear. Test shots also produced excellent results.
Comes with the original aluminum cap.
