The Leica Elmarit 28mm f/2.8, second generation, with serial number 2,460,000, was manufactured in 1970 and features a 6-group, 8-element optical design. The filter thread is E48, and it does not have a infinity lock.

Thanks to its retrofocus design, the lens protrudes less from the rear, making it compatible with cameras like the Leica M5 and CL. This design also eliminates the need for exposure compensation when used with bodies that have built-in exposure meters, enhancing its practicality.

The lens is particularly impressive when stopped down to f/4 to f/5.6, as it provides exceptional three-dimensionality in the center of the frame, making it a remarkable choice for sharp, clear shots with great depth.

This is an item previously sold by our store. It was carefully used by a customer and has now returned to us. This marks its third time being offered for sale.

The 12501 hood shows signs of use, including scuffs, shine from handling, and a small dent on one of the front corners. The lens itself has some paint loss on the focus knob, but the barrel remains in clean condition with no noticeable damage.

It underwent a full overhaul in 2024, including focus calibration. The overall handling remains excellent, with precise and reliable rangefinder coupling.

Under a strong LED light, a very slight coating deterioration can be seen on the middle element, but it is minimal and should have virtually no impact on image quality.

At wide apertures, the lens offers a gentle softness and natural vignetting that combine to produce a calm, atmospheric rendering. It performs beautifully both wide open and stopped down—an outstanding wide-angle lens. Test shots yielded excellent results, which you can view in our sample gallery.
