※About rarity

Serial number in the 1,340,000 range, manufactured in 1972.
A favorite among seasoned users, this is the Leica M5 Black—a distinctive M-type model.
This particular unit is an earlier version with two strap lugs (2-lug design). Leica’s product code is 10502.

Equipped with a highly visible match-needle light meter and a conveniently positioned shutter speed dial that can be operated without taking your eye off the viewfinder, the M5 is an exceptionally user-friendly camera.
Though larger than its predecessors like the M4, it offers outstanding handling and balance in hand.

Not only does the black M5 pair well with black lenses, but it also beautifully complements classic chrome lenses such as the Summicron and Summilux.

A lovely, well-preserved example.

The camera shows very minimal signs of use and retains a beautiful exterior overall. Even when looking closely, only minor wear can be found—such as slight paint loss near the black crinkle finish by the back door, subtle rubbing between the plastic and metal parts of the film advance lever, and light brassing on the battery cap. For a Leica M5, it remains in remarkably clean condition.

It underwent a full overhaul by a professional technician in 2023, and the operational feel and view through the finder are both excellent. The common M5 issue of a burned-out meter needle is absent, and the built-in light meter functions properly.

Please note: modern replacements for the MR9 battery, such as LR9/V625U/PX625U, are slightly thicker and may not fit in the M5. In that case, we recommend using the battery adapter available from Kanto Camera.

This is a superb companion to pair with a beautiful lens—ready to be enjoyed again with confidence.
