Serial number in the 1.06 million range. Leica M1 manufactured in 1961. Leitz product code is KOOCT and the catalog number is 10125M.
This model was derived from the Leica M2, with the rangefinder and self-timer omitted. It was originally intended for military and scientific use where a rangefinder was not required, but it also appealed to Visoflex users and wide-angle enthusiasts.
The 50mm and 35mm framelines are always displayed, with parallax correction.
Early M1 units, like the first M2s, were made with a button rewind. Some were finished in olive paint and delivered to the German military. Total production was slightly under ten thousand units, making it a relatively uncommon model.
There are slight scuffs on the top cover, baseplate, and shutter dial, but overall it presents a very clean appearance. The vulcanite is entirely original with no chips or missing parts. Fully overhauled in September 2025, with smooth operation of the advance and shutter, and a clear viewfinder. An ideal body for carefree use. Mount your favorite lens and enjoy it as a snap shooter.
