4th generation Summicron-M 50mm f2, finished in silver chrome. Leica catalog No. 11816. Serial number in the 3.74 million range, manufactured in 1996.
This is a minor update of the 3rd generation model, retaining the same 4-group, 6-element optical formula but with a built-in lens hood. It is sometimes referred to as the 3rd generation with hood.
Compact and practical, it offers a relatively close minimum focusing distance of 0.7m, making it a highly versatile 50mm lens. It uses E39 filters and delivers excellent image quality—well-balanced and suitable for all-around use. A great choice even for those new to Leica.
