Leica M4 Original Black Paint – Serial No. 1207xxx
This is an original black paint Leica M4, product code 10402 by Leitz. It bears serial number 1207xxx and was shipped on May 3, 1968. Interestingly, the M2 black paint version was still being sold alongside the M4 in that same year. All components, including the vulcanite covering, remain in original condition.

Paint wear is minimal, with only a hint of brass showing along the body edges. There are no dings or dents, and the camera retains its original parts throughout. Overall, this M4 black paint presents with excellent character and preservation.

All parts remain original, and the naturally worn paint gives the camera a pleasing character. The vulcanite on the back door shows some slight unevenness, but overall the covering is original and offers a comfortable grip.

The camera was overhauled in May 2025. As oil had spread throughout various components, a thorough disassembly and cleaning was carried out. Now, the film advance, dials, and levers operate with a very smooth feel, and all functions are working perfectly. The slow shutter speeds also fire with a satisfying sound.

The viewfinder is bright and clear, with strong contrast in the rangefinder patch.

Thanks to this recent full service, the camera is refreshed and ready to be used extensively.
