Nikkor-S C 8.5cm f1.5 in Nikon S mount. A large-aperture medium telephoto lens made by Nippon Kogaku, built with an impressive combination of black paint and chrome finish. Optical design is 3 groups and 7 elements. Distance scale in feet. It accepts 60mm screw-in filters, or Series 8 filters inserted into the two-piece hood.
It is said that around two thousand units of the Nikkor 85mm f1.5 were produced across the three versions for Nikon, Leica, and Contax. A true large-aperture telephoto, filled with plenty of glass and carrying a satisfying heft, weighing approximately 550 grams.
Despite the extremely shallow depth of field, this lens is known for its gentle softness around wide open. When stopped down, it delivers a crisp, tight rendering, making it a lens with two distinct personalities. It is an admirable design that fully embraces the strengths of the Sonnar type.
Offered here in collector grade condition, complete with the rare hood and hood cap.
The front edge of the barrel shows only a trace of paint loss, and both the black paint and chrome-finished areas remain beautifully preserved. The hood has some light rub marks and minor paint wear, but it is still in very good condition.
Fully overhauled in September 2025. Thanks to the careful service, the aperture and helicoid offer a smooth, refined feel, and the rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate.
On the front element, there is extremely slight coating wear visible only under a strong LED light, and the rear element shows very faint balsam separation along the edge, but neither will affect image quality. There are no cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is impressively clear.
Comes with the original hood, hood cap, rear cap, red filter, and case. A rare opportunity to find one in such fine condition.
