Nikon S2 black paint, early version. Serial number 61709xx.
Compared with the later black paint S2 that features more chrome parts, the early version has a greater proportion of black-painted areas, giving it an even stronger presence. The matte black finish extending to the edges, including the shutter and sync selector dials, creates an impressively bold appearance.
The included black paint Nikkor 5cm f1.4 belongs to the first batch, serial number 3312xx, produced slightly earlier than the S2 itself. Lenses from this number range were mounted on the extremely rare Nikon S black paint models, making it a historically significant and scarce piece.
Just as with Leica, Nikon S series cameras were also produced in small numbers in black paint, but among them, the early S2 black paint stands out with exceptional style. This example retains its original parts and beautiful paintwork, presenting an outstanding condition.
This Nikon S2 black paint body shows very little signs of use and remains in beautiful condition. The base plate has two extremely minor marks and a slight dent, but the semi-gloss paint finish with a faint powdery sheen is still well preserved, retaining much of the feel of its original appearance when new. Paint loss on the edges is minimal, making this a fine candidate for a collection. Early black S2 bodies in this level of condition are exceptionally rare.
Both body and lens were fully overhauled in August 2025. Careful servicing has ensured smooth operation across all functions, and the finder is bright and clear.
The early black Nikkor lens shows some light but noticeable cleaning marks on the front element, yet it remains free of haze with clear glass.
Included are the front lens cap, a later-period f1.4 hood, original box, plastic bag, cleaning cloth, English manual, depth of field chart, and other accessories.
