Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f/2 cinema lens, originally manufactured in 1955 with an Arriflex mount and later converted to Leica L mount.
Focusing is done by rotating the lens head, which requires a bit of technique to operate smoothly. It's recommended to set the aperture first, then adjust the focus.
This is an item previously sold by our store. It was carefully used by the previous owner and has now returned to us.
The aperture ring has hand-engraved markings, likely from professional or institutional inventory control.
At the time of its previous sale in 2020, we installed a custom focusing tab and adjusted the helicoid for smoother operation.
Prior to this resale, the lens was cleaned. There is minor coating deterioration around the edge of the rear surface of the front element.
At infinity, the rangefinder’s double image slightly overshoots, but rangefinder coupling is functional.
Sample images taken during the previous sale are available on our Test Gallery page. We hope you’ll take a look. When shot wide open, the lens produces a soft, veiled rendering with a unique atmospheric character.
