Early version of the first-generation Summilux 50mm f1.4, beautifully finished in chrome. Often nicknamed the "Lady". Serial number is in the 1.66 million range, manufactured in 1959. Leitz product code is SOOME.
This early Summilux, produced before the optical redesign, is a highly sought-after model known for its gentle rendering at wide open aperture. Stopping down just one click sharpens the image considerably, delivering a striking three-dimensional effect. It is a lens with remarkable expressive range and depth of character.
The elegant and refined finish, which earned it the nickname Ki-fujin (Lady), pairs seamlessly not only with contemporary M3 and M2 bodies of the time, but also with modern digital bodies, thanks to its timeless design.
There are signs of regular use such as shine and scuff marks on the satin chrome finish, but no noticeable dings or dents are present.
Fully overhauled in May 2025. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid offer a very smooth feel.
The rangefinder coupling shows slight front focus at wide open and close distance, but accurate focus can be achieved by stopping down one click.
There is a very faint separation along the edge of an inner element, and a few extremely light cleaning marks on the front and rear elements, but none of these should noticeably affect image quality.
Comes with an XOOIM hood and third-party front and rear caps.
