Prewar Elmar 35mm f3.5. Product code is EKURZCHROM. Serial number in the 470,000 range, manufactured in 1938. Distance scale in feet. Optical construction consists of 4 elements in 3 groups.
While it was originally a non-coated Elmar 35mm, this particular lens has been given genuine Leica coating at a later date. The benefits of the coating are clearly noticeable in actual shooting.
Among Leitz lenses, it is one of the thinnest, second only to the Hektor 28mm.
It delivers sharp rendering at the center when wide open, while the peripheral falloff creates a unique atmosphere. Despite its orthodox design, this lens offers unexpectedly deep expressive capabilities and has been receiving renewed appreciation in recent years.
Compatible hoods include FLQOO and FOOKH. Our own FB-07 hood with built-in aperture control, made by Flashback Camera, can also be used without any vignetting.
This item was previously sold by our store and has now returned once again, having found its way back for the fourth time.
The barrel shows only minimal signs of use, with slight wear and minor plating loss around the edges and nameplate. There are no noticeable dents or deep scratches, and overall, it retains a very good appearance.
It underwent a full overhaul in July 2025. Thanks to the careful servicing, the helicoid action is exceptionally smooth, and the aperture ring also operates effortlessly.
The inner elements show slight coating deterioration visible only under strong LED light, and the rear element has a couple of extremely faint cleaning marks. However, these have virtually no effect on image quality. There is no haze or fungus, making this a remarkably clean example of a prewar Elmar.
The results from test shooting were excellent. Although the sample images were taken during a previous sale, they are still available in our gallery. We hope you take a look.
Comes with a genuine front cap.
