A release button produced by Schmidt Shokai, Leica’s official distributor in Japan. It was given as a novelty item in the 1970s to customers who purchased Leica products and is engraved with the initials SL, standing for Schmidt Shokai.
Among mint boxed sets kept by longtime collectors, this release is often found together with the Schmidt Shokai warranty card.
Some examples show bubbling in the black painted areas, as the SL release is made of brass with a black paint finish. Naturally, it pairs beautifully with black paint M models.
With its perfect size and rounded shape, it offers a very comfortable release action.
A look that matches beautifully with a well-used black paint body. Bubbling is visible in the painted areas, along with some paint loss. The SL engraving remains clear and distinct.
