Leica IIIf Red Dial. Serial number in the 690,000 range. Manufactured in 1954, the same year the Leica M3 was introduced. Leitz product code is LOOHN.
The Leica IIIf was released in 1950 as the successor to the Leica IIIc. The early models did not have a self-timer and featured a black dial with black lettering for the sync number (Black Dial). Later models, including this one, feature a red dial with red lettering. This particular item is the final version of the IIIf, produced in 1954, with the addition of the self-timer.
The Leica IIIf, known for its high level of craftsmanship, was produced in the largest quantities among the Barnack-style Leicas, with production lasting until 1957. Due to its large production numbers, it is reasonably priced, reliable, and a classic model with few issues. It is an excellent choice for those looking to start their Leica journey.
When paired with the compact A36 Elmar, the combination offers a lightweight and highly user-friendly setup.
There is a faint scratch on the top plate and a few light scratch marks on the bottom cover, but overall, the camera shows minimal signs of use and is in very good condition for a IIIf. It can be considered in excellent condition.
All functions are working properly. The shutter sound is crisp, and the overall operation feel is smooth. The viewfinder is clear and easy to see. Ready for practical use!
