Leica Nocton 50mm f/1.5 – Early Type (Leica Screw Mount)

This lens is one of the rare 300 units from the third production batch, following the ultra-rare first lot (5 units) and second lot (10 units).
Despite its short production run, the original Leica L-mount Nocton came in a surprisingly wide range of variations.
This particular example is an early type, featuring the distinctive pale blue coating and triple black rings. With its well-proportioned, rhythmic design, the barrel is arguably one of the most stylish among all Leica-mount lenses.
It pairs beautifully with both Barnack and M-type Leica bodies.
While many Leica Noctons suffer from mechanical play or loose construction, this example is excellent — both in handling and optical performance.

A true rarity.
This is a previously sold item from our shop — lovingly used by its former owner and now returned to us once again. This marks its third time being offered here! We are truly grateful when items we've carefully sourced, serviced, tested, and sold make their way back to us.
There are some minor signs of use, such as light scuffing, but no dents or dings. The overall appearance is clean and well-maintained.
The lens underwent a full overhaul in 2024, including focus and rangefinder coupling adjustments. All controls still operate smoothly, and rangefinder alignment remains precise thanks to the careful servicing.
The front element shows a pinpoint mark and a couple of extremely faint cleaning lines, but these should have no impact on actual photography. There is no haze or separation, and for an original Leica Nocton, the glass is in excellent condition. Notably, this lens does not suffer from the common issue of balsam separation that often plagues these models.
