Summicron 35mm f/2 8-Element – Serial No. 2,270,000 Range
This is the legendary 8-element Summicron 35mm f/2, made in Germany in 1968, with a serial number in the 2.27 million range. Leitz’s product code is SAWOM, later designated 11308. Minimum focusing distance is 0.7 meters.
The beautifully crafted chrome barrel reflects the functional elegance of its era—a timeless design that remains sophisticated even today. More than just its optical performance, this lens offers the artisanal charm characteristic of Leitz’s golden age—a true gem in the Leica legacy.
Wide open, it delivers soft and gentle rendering with a signature classic character. Stop it down slightly, and it gains impressive dimensionality. Further stopping down results in sharp, crisp images. With such expressive range, it’s no wonder this lens has consistently maintained its high reputation across generations.
Compatible hoods include the original ITDOO or IROOA, among others.
This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now returned after being carefully used by the customer. It remains in the same excellent condition—both cosmetically and mechanically—as when it was last offered.
There are a few minor signs of use, including small marks on the front edge of the filter ring, the infinity lock lever, and the barrel, but no major blemishes. Overall wear is minimal, and the matte chrome finish is still in beautiful shape.
It underwent a full overhaul in 2024. Thanks to careful servicing, all mechanical operations remain smooth, and the feel of the infinity lock engagement is particularly precise and satisfying. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on. The interior of the barrel has been expertly treated with a matte black anti-reflective lacquer, helping to enhance contrast and clarity in captured images.
The front element shows a few very shallow cleaning marks, but nothing that would impact image quality. The coating is fully intact across the surface, and the glass remains very clean overall.
