Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4, late version. Nikon S-mount. Black barrel. Serial number in the 400,000 range.
Its optical roots trace back to the Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/1.5 for Contax, featuring a 7-element, 3-group construction. This black-barrel version is lighter than earlier 50mm f/1.4 models, weighing just 143g. The lens marking has also been simplified—from Nikkor-S.C with red C to plain white Nikkor-S. Filter diameter is 43mm.
A popular choice for use on Leica or mirrorless cameras via adapter. At wide open, it delivers a smooth, soft, and delicate rendering, while stopping down about three stops brings out sharp, crisp results.
A classic vintage lens that offers excellent character and performance at a reasonable price.
There is some light scuffing on the front chrome rim from hood attachment/detachment, along with a small spot of chrome plating loss. However, the rest of the barrel is in excellent condition. The black paint finish retains its smooth, semi-gloss texture and looks great.
All functions operate properly. The aperture ring has a satisfying click action, and the aperture blades show no signs of wear or oil.
As is common with this lens model, there is some balsam separation around the edge of the middle element, but it has virtually no impact on actual image quality. The glass is otherwise clean—free from haze or cleaning marks—and remains bright and clear. Focus has been checked using our in-store demo body.
Includes an original front cap and a third-party rear cap.
