※About rarity

Summicron 35mm f2, second generation, late model, features a 6 elements optical design arranged in four groups. Leica's product code for this model is 11309. With a serial number in the 2.71 million range, it was manufactured in Canada in 1974. This version does not have the characteristic focusing knob sometimes found on earlier models.

The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.7 meters and a filter thread size of E39. Following the first-generation eight-element model, this later version has also become increasingly difficult to find in good condition.

Although often overshadowed by the earlier 8 elements design, the 6 elements Summicron has its own distinct appeal. The helicoid rotation angle is well-balanced, and the focus tab fits naturally under the fingers, making manual focusing smooth and intuitive. The rendering has a slightly muted color tone and avoids excessive sharpness, producing a natural and pleasing image quality. With a measured weight of just 180 grams, the lens remains both lightweight and compact, making it an excellent match for Leica M cameras.

The overall appearance remains exceptionally clean. The only noticeable sign of use is some minor wear on the helicoid’s focus tab.

In 2023, the lens underwent a full overhaul, including focus adjustment. The aperture and helicoid still operate smoothly with excellent feel, and the rangefinder coupling remains perfectly accurate.

The glass is in beautiful condition, with no haze or damage. There is a single faint cleaning mark on the front element, but this does not affect performance. The amber coating remains well preserved. Test shots confirm that image quality remains excellent.
