Summicron 35mm f2, second generation, 6-element version with the distinctive horn. Serial number in the 2.31-million range, made in 1969. Leitz product code is 11309. Made in Canada. Filter size is E39.
This example is from the very first batch of the 6-element version, falling within the first-lot serial range 2316001 to 2318400.
Just like the first-generation 8-element, high-grade examples of this lens are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Often overshadowed by the 8-element, the 6-element version nevertheless packs plenty of capability and charm, from the well-judged helicoid rotation and fingertip-friendly focusing tab to the slightly subdued color rendering and gently crisp imaging.
Only on this horned variant, the horn and the small grip on the focusing ring interfere slightly, so the infinity mark and aperture index sit offset from their usual positions, but this is the correct configuration.
Compatible hoods are the same as those for the Summilux 35mm: the 12504, or the 12585 which is shared with 50mm lenses. Its light weight and compact form make it a perfect match for Leica M bodies.

This is a very clean example with no noticeable signs of use. No visible scratches or wear can be seen.
Fully overhauled in November 2025. Many six-element units tend to have a loose and rattling feel, but this one has been carefully serviced, resulting in exceptionally smooth movements of both the helicoid and aperture ring. The internal anti-reflection lacquer has also been meticulously renewed, providing a tighter and more refined rendering. Rangefinder coupling is perfect, and focusing is accurate.
The middle element shows an extremely faint cleaning mark that can only be detected under a strong LED light with a loupe, but there is no haze, fungus, or other issues. The glass is bright and clear, matching its excellent exterior. Test shots also produced very pleasing results.
Comes with the original front cap and a plastic case.
