Elmarit 28mm f/2.8 1st version (late type), yellow scale, commonly known as the 9-element version.
Serial number in the 2.19 million range, produced in 1966.
This lens features a non-retrofocus, symmetrical optical design based on the Super-Angulon.
Please note: it is not compatible with the Leica M5 or CL, as the rear element interferes with the metering arm.
As this lens was produced before the introduction of a dedicated 28mm brightline frame, the 35/135mm framelines are displayed when mounted.
With its distinctive tapered barrel, signature infinity lock, and beautifully balanced rendering that combines rich atmosphere with excellent resolution, this lens is highly sought after.
Accepts E48 filters, or Series VII filters when used with the 12501 lens hood.
There is only minimal wear to the black chrome finish, and the lens overall shows very little signs of use, with a clean and attractive appearance.
The included 12501M hood shows light signs of handling and is in approximately 93% excellent condition.
Fully overhauled in April 2025. The aperture and focusing helicoid now operate with exceptional smoothness.
The infinity lock glides effortlessly into place without interrupting the silky helicoid motion.
Rangefinder coupling is precise and accurate.
The glass is free from noticeable scratches or haze.
Unlike many 9-element Elmarits, this example shows no signs of the typical balsam separation—resulting in a crisp, clear optical performance that fully showcases the lens’s original character.
