Summilux 35mm f1.4 second generation. Leitz product code 11870. Serial number in the 2.8 million range. Made in Canada in 1976. One of the signature large-aperture wide-angle lenses from Leitz, produced for more than thirty years and known as a long-selling classic. Black chrome finish.
At wide open it delivers a soft, gentle rendering, while stopping down brings a crisp, dimensional image with a calm atmosphere. Compared to the Summicron, the Summilux draws finer lines and has a more delicate character.
Its design beautifully complements the slim bodies of rangefinder cameras, and as a lens produced over many years, it stands as the quintessential large-aperture wide-angle lens from Leitz.
There is slight paint wear on the edge of the base and some minor signs of use, but the hood attachment marks that are commonly seen on this model are absent, resulting in a rather clean exterior. The included 12504 hood bears the LEICA engraving and is from a later period. The hood shows some dents and distortion, but there is no issue for practical shooting.
Fully overhauled in November 2025. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture ring and helicoid operate smoothly and without stress. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned, and focusing accuracy is excellent.
The lens shows two or three faint cleaning marks on the front and rear elements, along with slight coating deterioration, but these have no impact on image quality. Test shots produced very good results. Please take a look at the sample images.
The 12504 hood mentioned above, a Series 7 UVa filter, and original front and rear caps are included.
