Summilux-M 35mm f1.4, 2nd version. This is the final type of the spherical model, made in Canada. Leitz product code is 11870. Serial number is in the 3.13 million range, manufactured in 1981. It features a 7-element in 5-group optical design, a minimum focusing distance of 1 meter, and uses Series 7 filters held inside the 12504 hood.
The 2nd version of the Summilux 35mm was produced for an exceptionally long time, from 1961 to 1995, without any major redesign. It remains highly popular even today. Its rendering has been widely discussed, but what stands out is the dramatic change in character from wide open to stopped down. At full aperture, it delivers dreamy and soft images, while stopping down brings a remarkable increase in sharpness and contrast, creating a sense of dimensionality. With such a wide expressive range, this lens offers a deep well of photographic potential.
Combining compactness, the brightness of f1.4, distinctive image rendering, and superb design, it is a remarkably well-rounded lens.
The barrel shows minimal signs of use and remains in beautiful condition. The included 12504 hood is a later version with digital-style lettering. It has no noticeable paint loss and matches the lens well in appearance.
Fully overhauled in July 2025, the lens has undergone meticulous servicing. Both the aperture and helicoid now operate with smooth, precise motion. The rangefinder coupling is accurate, and focus performance is excellent.
There are one or two extremely faint cleaning marks on the front element and a slight deterioration in the coating on an inner element, but the glass is otherwise clear, free from haze or prominent scratches. Optical clarity is excellent, and the results from test shooting were also favorable.
Comes with the 12504 hood and front and rear caps.
