Dual Range Summicron 50mm f2, the early version of the close-focus Summicron. Serial number in the 1.53 million range, made in 1957. Leitz code name SOOIC-MN or SOMNI, later standardized as 11918. The focusing scale is in feet.
When using a 50mm lens on an M-series Leica, there are often moments when you wish you could get just a little closer — the DR Summicron is one of the best answers to that wish.
Without the close-focus attachment, it focuses down to 1 meter; with the goggles attached, it allows close-ups to about 0.5 m while simultaneously compensating for parallax. Its precision engineering and mechanical sophistication are pure hallmarks of Leitz at its peak.
Please note that it cannot be used on most digital M-series Leicas because the goggles interfere with the rangefinder cam. However, it works perfectly on the current M11.
For using it on the M11 or mirrorless cameras without the goggles in close-focus mode, there is a simple trick — feel free to ask if you would like to know how.

There are almost no signs of wear, including on the close-up attachment. The overall appearance is exceptionally clean.
Fully overhauled in October 2025, including the close-up attachment. Thanks to the careful maintenance, the aperture ring has a pleasant click feeling, and the focusing helicoid operates very smoothly. Focusing accuracy is excellent, and rangefinder coupling has been confirmed with the Leica M11.
There are a few light cleaning marks on the middle element, a faint scratch on the edge of the rear element, a very slight separation along the rim of the rear group, and minor coating deterioration on some lens surfaces. However, none of these have any effect on image quality. The glass remains clear overall, and the viewfinder attachment glass is also clean.
Test shots taken with the M11 produced excellent results. A fine example in good working condition.
