Summaron 35mm f/2.8, commonly referred to as the Nippa-chi Summaron. Leica L/M mount. Leitz product code: SIMOM-M, later changed to 11306. Serial number in the 1,930,000 range, manufactured in 1962. Filter size: E39. Minimum focusing distance: 0.7m.
By removing the set screws on the mount, this lens can be converted to Leica screw mount (LTM), allowing it to be used on Barnack Leicas as well.
Though it shares the same 4-group, 6-element optical design as its predecessor, the f/3.5 Summaron, the use of new optical glass brought increased brightness, along with improved color reproduction and resolution.
Sharp even wide open, it offers excellent color rendering and delivers a punchy, well-defined look in black-and-white photography as well. You can enjoy its signature rendering with a touch of vignetting for added atmosphere.
Its design closely resembles that of the legendary 8-element Summicron 35mm, and it pairs beautifully with modern digital M bodies, both in appearance and performance.
There are a few very faint scuffs, but overall the lens is in excellent cosmetic condition.
Fully overhauled in March 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the aperture ring moves smoothly with a satisfying click, and the helicoid operates with a soft, dampened feel. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate.
There is a single faint trace of fungus near the edge of the rear element that could not be fully removed during cleaning. However, it will not worsen over time and has virtually no effect on image quality. The rest of the glass is clear, with no haze or noticeable scratches. The coating is fully intact, allowing you to enjoy the Summaron’s original character.
A clean, well-maintained lens in ideal condition for regular use. Image results were excellent in our test shots, all taken wide open. Please feel free to check our sample gallery.
Includes original front and rear caps.
