One of Leitz’s classic fast lenses. Following the Summar and the Summitar, it appeared as the third generation of high-speed standard lenses. Its overwhelming resolving power shook the photographic industry of the time and, together with the launch of the Leica M3, marked the peak era of Leitz.
Although production numbers of the collapsible Summicron were quite high, many surviving examples suffer from cleaning marks or deterioration of the inner elements, leaving fewer and fewer lenses capable of showing their original performance.
This particular piece has been fully serviced, delivers excellent image quality, and is ready for practical use.

There is a small mark opposite the aperture index, but otherwise the barrel shows very little wear and remains in clean condition.
Fully overhauled in 2025, the lens has been carefully serviced, leaving the aperture ring and helicoid with a very smooth and pleasant feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on and focusing is accurate.

The glass shows some deterioration of the coating on the inner element, which appears slightly whitish when inspected under a strong LED. In addition, there are a few very light cleaning marks on the rear element. However, neither issue has any impact on actual photography. The rendering is excellent, even in backlit conditions.
