Summicron 35mm f/2, 8-element version. Made in Germany. Serial number in the 2.09 million range, manufactured in 1965. Leica product code: originally SAWOM, later 11308. Minimum focusing distance is 0.7m. Compatible with E39 filters.
Wide open, the lens produces a soft and gentle rendering. Stop it down slightly, and the image gains a remarkable sense of depth. Stopping down further leads to crisp, sharp results. Even at smaller apertures, the rendering remains smooth and refined—never overly clinical—offering that signature Leica look.
Beyond its outstanding optical performance, the lens also boasts a beautifully functional design that embodies the best of German engineering. Its timeless aesthetics make it a perfect match not only for contemporaries like the Leica M2, but also for modern digital M bodies.
When paired with period-correct hoods like the ITDOO or IROOA, the lens takes on an elegant and dignified appearance—so striking, it’s a pleasure just to admire it.
Light scuff marks from normal use can be seen on the front and base of the lens barrel, but overall, this is a very clean example of the 8-element Summicron.
Although it underwent a full overhaul back in 2021 when previously sold, it was once again fully overhauled in March 2025 for complete peace of mind. The aperture and helicoid rings now operate with smooth, refined precision. Even the feel of the infinity focus stop has been carefully adjusted, resulting in a stress-free user experience. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The glass shows only minimal coating deterioration, visible only under strong LED light, and it has no noticeable effect on image quality. There’s no haze or cleaning marks, and the optics are clean and clear.
Test shots produced excellent results. We invite you to view the sample images—at wide apertures, the lens delivers a gentle, soft rendering that beautifully complements the fresh, vibrant feel of springtime scenes.
Comes with original Leica front and rear caps.
