Fujinon 35mm f/2 – Leica Screw Mount
Released in 1954 by Fuji Photo Film Co., this lens is part of Fujinon's classic L-mount lineup.
Together with the Fujinon 100mm f/2 and 50mm f/1.2, this 35mm f/2 completes the trio of Fujinon’s fast Leica screw mount lenses.
It features rangefinder coupling, a 5-group, 7-element optical design utilizing newly developed glass, and an amber-colored coating. The focusing scale is in feet, with a minimum focusing distance of 3.5 feet (1 meter). Filter thread size is 40.5mm, and the lens weighs approximately 190g (measured).
Many Fujinon 35mm lenses are known to have less-than-ideal rangefinder coupling, but this particular example has been carefully adjusted and now performs accurately.
Even wide open, the center shows good sharpness and resolution. The background bokeh can be a bit busy, while the foreground bokeh remains soft and smooth, creating an overall gentle rendering.
In color, it produces rich, vibrant tones; in black & white, it delivers punchy, well-defined contrast — a fun and characterful 35mm lens to shoot with.
There are two small marks on the chrome at the front edge of the barrel, but otherwise, this lens shows very little sign of use and remains in excellent overall cosmetic condition.
It underwent a full overhaul in April 2025, including focus adjustment. The aperture and focusing rings now offer a wonderfully smooth, precise feel.
The glass is clear and bright, with just a few extremely light cleaning marks on the front element. No haze or significant damage is present, and the coating remains intact across all surfaces.
In our experience, the Fujinon 35mm f/2 often tends to back-focus slightly, but this particular lens has been carefully adjusted for accurate rangefinder coupling, making it a pleasure to shoot with.
Test shots yielded excellent results — you can view sample images in our Test Shots Gallery.
Comes with original front and rear caps, both bearing the FUJINON logo.
