Nikon SP Original Black Paint. Early model in the 6.2 million serial number range. Cloth curtain shutter. It has been moderately used and has developed a great character over time. The distance scale is in feet.
The right-side viewfinder has parallax correction and includes frames for 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, and 135mm lenses, along with the rangefinder image. The left-side auxiliary viewfinder accommodates 28mm and 35mm lenses.
The colorful bright frames and the feeling of immersion with the monocular viewfinder, which feels almost integrated with the viewfinder, make for an exciting experience.
There are paint chips on various parts, light dents on the bottom, and slight warping along the edge of the bottom cover, but the camera exudes a truly rugged presence. It’s a camera you’ll want to continue using and nurturing as it develops more character over time.
A full overhaul was completed in April 2025. The operation feel has greatly improved. The winding mechanism is a bit heavier, but considering its use, it’s in good condition. Both the viewfinder and rangefinder window provide a clear view, with the double image contrast remaining strong.
The SP Black model, with its history as a professional camera, carries a dignified presence. Whether shooting or simply admiring it, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the experience. While it pairs perfectly with the 50mm f1.4, using it with a 35mm wide-angle lens further enhances its stylish appeal.
