The Nikkor-S·C 8.5cm f/1.5 is a high-speed medium telephoto lens manufactured by Nippon Kogaku, introduced in 1951. Designed for the Nikon S-mount, it features a black paint and chrome finish. The optical construction consists of 7 elements in 3 groups. Distance scale is marked in feet. The filter thread is 60mm screw-in, and the dedicated hood accepts Series 8 filters. Note that the L-mount version uses a different 58mm screw-in filter size.
It is said that approximately 2,000 units of the Nikkor 85mm f/1.5 were produced across all mounts—Nikon, Leica, and Contax. Due to its large aperture and telephoto design, the lens is packed with glass and has a substantial feel, weighing in at 551 grams.
At wide apertures, it offers an extremely shallow depth of field, delivering refined, softly rendered images. This classic lens is a joy to use not only on Nikon S rangefinder bodies, but also on modern mirrorless cameras such as the Nikon Z, Leica SL, and Sony a7 series.
The barrel shows some paint loss from use, but there are no noticeable or distracting scratches.
Fully overhauled in May 2025. The aperture and helicoid now operate with excellent smoothness. Rangefinder coupling has been confirmed accurate using a Nikon S body and ground glass.
Includes the original lens hood, which is in clean condition and difficult to find these days (hood cap not included). The rear cap has one missing locking tab, so it fits loosely.
With its worry-free exterior condition, careful servicing, and included hood, this is an ideal lens for photographers who want to enjoy shooting without hesitation.
