The Planar 85mm f/1.4 with T* coating, manufactured by Carl Zeiss in Oberkochen, is a medium telephoto lens for the high-end Contarex SLR system.
This particular lens was produced in 1974.
Highly acclaimed for its three-dimensional rendering and soft, beautiful bokeh, it is regarded as one of Zeiss’s finest lenses — yet only around 400 units were ever produced.
It is said to have been a special-order product intended for professional use.
Ideal for portrait photography, it features a unique 3-blade aperture design.
The lens has a black barrel finish and a 67mm filter thread.

The lens shows almost no signs of use and retains a very clean appearance, still preserving the atmosphere of when it was new.
Fully overhauled in April 2025, the helicoid now operates with a smooth, refined feel.
Under strong LED light, extremely faint coating deterioration can be seen on the lens, but it is unlikely to have any noticeable impact on actual shooting performance.
Shooting tests produced excellent results.
The lens comes complete with a UV filter, front and rear caps, a case, and the original box.
