The Contarex Professional is a high-end 35mm single-lens reflex camera with a focal-plane shutter, manufactured by Zeiss Ikon.
Introduced in 1967, it was produced for only one year until 1968.
With a production run of approximately 1,500 units, it remains a relatively rare model today.
The design is a complete departure from its predecessor, the Contarex Special.
The built-in exposure meter was omitted, making this the lightest model in the Contarex series (relatively speaking!), with an actual measured weight of exactly 800g.
Thanks to a fully reflecting prism, the viewfinder is renowned for its brightness and ease of viewing.
The Contarex series was the culmination of Zeiss Ikon's full manufacturing capabilities at the time.
It is said that each camera was assembled by veteran craftsmen with 20 to 30 years of experience, using over 1,200 individual components.
Astonishingly, it is reported that only about 10% of the production cost was for materials, while a full 90% was attributed to labor costs.
Truly, this camera represents the pinnacle of Zeiss Ikon's technical excellence.
There is a slight wrinkle in the leather covering next to the lens mount, but otherwise, signs of use are extremely minimal, and the camera retains a strong sense of its original, like-new presence.
As befits a flagship model produced with the highest quality standards, the top cover's plating shines beautifully, as if it had just left the factory.
All functions operate properly, and the viewfinder remains bright and clear.
A finely crafted original leather case is included.
