Despite its bright f/2.5 aperture, this was Leica’s first collapsible high-speed lens, offering both compactness and light weight. The helicoid is numbered 2.
At wide apertures, it delivers a classic, soft rendering full of vintage character. Hektor lenses are often found overseas in poorly polished or misaligned condition, and careful attention is required when sourcing. However, this example has been properly serviced and offers excellent performance in terms of rendering, rangefinder coupling, and handling.
Retaining its original condition, this is a rare piece that allows you to enjoy the Hektor’s true optical character. It is also compatible with our custom-made FB-10 hood, designed specifically for the Hektor.
A rare collector’s item.
There are fine scuffs and very slight chrome pitting on the collapsible section, but no noticeable scratches or dings—making this a particularly clean example for a Hektor.
Fully overhauled in April 2025. The aperture ring and helicoid operate with a smooth, dampened feel, and rangefinder coupling is accurate.
The interior of the lens barrel has been carefully recoated with matte black anti-reflective lacquer, helping to suppress flare—a known trait of the Hektor—and promising a tighter, more controlled rendering.
The front element shows a few faint cleaning marks, and there is minor balsam separation at the edge of a middle element, along with light aging across the glass surfaces. However, there is no haze.
Test results were excellent under both front and backlighting conditions. Sample images are available in our gallery—we encourage you to take a look. The lens was tested wide open with our FB-10 dedicated hood, and the rendering was impressively solid. A lens full of vintage character, yet with a surprising amount of bite and clarity.
