Nikkor-P.C 105mm f2.5. A rangefinder lens for Nikon, released in 1954. It is a 3-group 5-element Sonnar type, designed by Zenji Wakimoto. The helicoid distance scale is in feet. This is the standard telephoto lens for the Nikon S series. This example is the earlier version with fixed hood lugs.
At the time of its release, it was the fastest lens among the 100mm class. Following the already popular Nikkor 85mm f2, it also gained strong popularity. Widely used by both professional photographers and amateurs, it sold in large numbers, which means many examples still circulate today, making it a representative lens that is affordable and easy to obtain. It is said that around 22,000 units were produced, including versions for other mounts such as Leica and Contax.
This Nikkor 105mm was carried over to the next-generation Nikon F. To extend the back focus, only a minimal adjustment was made by slightly changing the thickness of the rear element, and the optical design was essentially reused.
There is little sign of use and the exterior is in good condition. The included hood shows somewhat noticeable paint loss on the inside from mounting and removal. All functions operate correctly. The feel of the aperture and focusing helicoid is on the heavier side, and the aperture blades show signs of oil. Optional paid servicing can be arranged upon request. Rangefinder coupling has been confirmed with a Nikon S body and focusing screen.
The front element has a few wipe marks and the middle element shows slight dust, but none of these will affect the image quality.
Although the serial numbers do not match, the original box, leather case, strap, hood, and caps are included. The extension strap remains unused.
