Serial Number: 2,220,000 Range, Manufactured in 1966. A transitional model of the 2nd-generation Summilux 50mm f1.4. This particular unit features yellow lettering and a yellow scale, with stunning purple and amber coatings on the lens.
The Summilux Black from the 2,220,000 range falls within a transitional period. Around this serial number, the base design of the lens barrel changed from the grid pattern inherited from the "Lady" version to the vertical grooves of the 2nd generation.
This lens is predominantly finished in black chrome, with black paint used only for the screws on the lens barrel base.
Interestingly, even within the 2,220,000 range, there were variations in specifications—some units featured painted distance scales on the helicoid. Shortly after this serial range, the helicoid ring design shifted entirely to vertical grooves, finalizing the iconic design of the Summilux 2nd generation.
A rare collector’s item.
There are scuffs and some fading of the black chrome finish throughout, but the moderate signs of use add to its character. It would pair well with a well-worn black-painted M-series body.
Fully overhauled in March 2025, including precise focus adjustment. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the aperture and helicoid ring operate smoothly, and the rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned.
The lens has a few extremely light cleaning marks on the front element, along with very minor coating wear, but these have no noticeable impact on actual shooting. The test results were excellent.
