Wide-angle lens for Nikon S series, the W-Nikkor 35mm f2.5, later version with an aluminum barrel. Among the late models, this one has already lost the letter C from the Nikkor engraving. It comes just before the final version that featured a revised aperture ring. Starting around 1956, the lens adopted a lighter aluminum body with a beautiful black finish.
It has a 4-group, 6-element double Gauss design. Distance scale is in feet. The stopper is engraved with the EP mark. With a tapered, conical design, it looks striking when mounted on a Nikon S body. The f2.5 aperture offers sufficient brightness, and the lens delivers high resolution in the center even when wide open. The natural vignetting towards the edges adds a classic, atmospheric rendering.
The shape itself eliminates the need for a hood, and the distinct design gives it a cool look. Of course, its optical performance is excellent, and it can be thoroughly enjoyed when used on mirrorless digital cameras.
The exterior is in excellent condition. There is a slight loss of paint on the edge of the nameplate, but the black paint still retains a matte texture, and overall the item maintains a nearly like-new appearance.
Aperture and helicoid movements are smooth and functional. Rangefinder coupling is also accurate.
Just as the beautiful exterior suggests, the glass is clear with no noticeable scratches or haze.
