The second generation of Leica's renowned high-speed standard lens, the Summicron 50mm f2. Serial number in the 2.53 million range, produced in 1972. Made in Germany. Optical design consists of 6 elements in 5 groups—commonly referred to as the 6-element version. From this 2nd generation onward, the lens can focus down to 0.7 meters. Leitz product code: 11818.
Often overshadowed by the first-generation Summicron, this version nonetheless delivers excellent performance. The removal of the infinity lock improves usability, and the lightweight aluminum barrel brings the total weight down to approximately 200 grams, which is a welcome feature.
This particular lens not only comes with complete accessories but is also in exceptional condition, making it highly suitable for collectors.
Minimal signs of use can be observed. The barrel is in excellent condition. Acquired from a Japanese collector.
Fully overhauled in June 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the aperture and helicoid movements are now very smooth. The rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned.
Under strong LED light, an extremely faint coating blemish can be seen on the glass, but it has no impact on image quality. No noticeable cleaning marks or haze are present, and the optics are beautifully clear.
Includes the original box, plastic case, 12585 hood, and hood cap.
