Dallmeyer Super-Six 2inch f/1.9 – Original Leica Screw Mount, Black Paint Version
This is the rare black paint version of the Dallmeyer Super-Six 2inch f/1.9, produced by the British optical manufacturer J.H. Dallmeyer. Among the already scarce original Leica screw mount (LTM) versions of this lens, the black paint model is exceptionally rare. The lens barrel features the elegant cursive engraving of J.H. Dallmeyer — a detail that will undoubtedly appeal to black paint enthusiasts.

It has a modified double Gauss optical design with 4 groups and 6 elements. The front cap is a 36mm slip-on type, the same size as the A36 Elmar. The lens weighs 249g.

Distance scale is in feet, with a minimum focusing distance of approximately 1 meter. As this is an uncoated version, it does not bear the DC (Dallmeyer Coated) marking on the barrel.

The DSS (Dallmeyer Super-Six) 50mm in Leica LTM was produced over an extended period, though in very small quantities. Variations include the early brass black paint model with cursive engraving, followed by brass with chrome finish, aluminum barrels, and both uncoated and coated lenses.

This example features a brass body finished in black paint, paired with an aluminum helicoid ring. The paint shows some wear from long use, which makes it a perfect match for a well-used Leica M black paint body.

Compact and understated in appearance, the lens offers outstanding rendering. Wide open, it delivers a soft, gentle, and dreamy image; stop it down slightly to around f/2.2 and it sharpens beautifully with a lovely bokeh.

Rangefinder coupling is spot-on, allowing for a smooth and immersive shooting experience.

Among non-Leitz lenses, this is one of the most difficult to find—and a true gem for collectors. A rare and special piece.

The black paint shows wear from years of use, giving the lens a striking and purposeful appearance. Despite its compact size, it carries a unique presence. The distance scale on the helicoid is black-painted aluminum and shows noticeable wear, making the markings somewhat difficult to read. There are no dents or impact marks.

The lens received a full overhaul in 2025. The aperture and helicoid now operate with a very smooth, refined feel. The front element shows a few extremely light cleaning marks, but there is no haze or fog—just clear, bright glass with excellent transparency.

Thanks to careful servicing, rangefinder coupling is accurate from the 3.5 feet (1 meter) mark all the way to infinity.
