※About rarity

Canon 50mm f1.2, Leica screw mount. Introduced in 1956. The lens configuration is 5 groups, 7 elements. Feet scale. Filter size is 55mm. The serial number of this item is 13xxx, which likely dates it to around 1957.

This is a large aperture standard lens from Canon, boasting impressive brightness, second only to the famous f0.95 for 50mm lenses. It is sometimes referred to overseas as the Japanese Noctilux.

With no common issues such as fogging, the image quality is excellent, and it offers a beautiful rendering characteristic of large aperture lenses. This particular piece has a smooth focus and the glass is in excellent condition.

This item was previously sold in our shop and has been passed around among customers for nearly 10 years, making this the fifth sale of the lens in here.

The helicoid ring shows slight paint wear on the knurling, but overall, the lens is in very good cosmetic condition. The Canon 50mm f1.2 lenses are often known for having aperture clicks that feel loose and stiff focusing actions, but this particular lens underwent a full overhaul in 2017, and it currently operates with a smooth and pleasant feel. The rangefinder coupling is also spot on.

While the lens is known for often having a cloudy middle element, this example is exceptionally clear, with no cleaning marks, and the glass is very clean.

Thanks to its rare pristine glass, the image quality is excellent. Sample images from the previous sale are available in our test shots gallery for you to view. We hope you enjoy them.

The lens comes with its original front and rear caps, as well as a filter.
