※About rarity

Leica M4 Black Chrome. Leitz catalog number 10402. Serial number in the 1,380,000 range, manufactured in 1974. Made in Germany, with the Wetzlar engraving.

The M4, designed as the successor to the M3 and M2, remains a beloved model among enthusiasts due to its overall ease of use. It is equipped with bright-line frames for 35mm, 50mm, 90mm, and 135mm lenses. The film advance crank, positioned to avoid interference with the Leica Meter, set a design standard that was carried forward to the M6 and M7.

The M4 Black Chrome body pairs beautifully not only with black lenses but also subtly complements chrome lenses, adding to its charm.

This is an item we’ve sold in the past, now on its third sale.

All parts, including the vulcanite covering, are original. While there are light scuffs consistent with its age on areas like the baseplate, there are no dents or major dings. The cosmetic condition is just right for practical use.

It underwent an overhaul in 2023, after which the previous owner took great care of it. The grease has settled nicely, making it perfect for use now—feel free to put it to work without hesitation. All operations are smooth, the viewfinder is clear, and there is no sign of separation in the optical elements.

This is a well-preserved camera with a great overall atmosphere.
